Who we are

The Directorate-General for Logistics and Interpretation for Conferences (DG LINC) is the multilingual conference service hub of the European Parliament. Our mission is to enable the European Parliament to achieve its political objectives by providing linguistic, technical and logistical support to meetings and conferences. Our services support the democratic legitimacy of the Institution by helping the Members of Parliament get their message across in any of the official languages. We thus enable the legislative process and make it accessible to the citizens of Europe. This makes DG LINC a very dynamic, collaborative, and unique place of work, with opportunities for connecting with different actors across the Parliament. If you like challenges and are customer-minded then DG LINC could be a great place for you to do a traineeship.

Interpreter Support and Training Unit is a small unit of 12 people, organized in two teams: the Training Team creates and organizes learning opportunities for interpreters in a wide range of areas, from languages to general background knowledge, current issues in EU member states and EU current affairs. The Documentation Team puts together meeting documentation for interpreters and supports the creation of specific preparation material on topical legislative files.

We take an individual approach, looking at every interpreter and his or her learning history. Workshops, external stays, distance learning via webinars and the creation of e-learning courses are some of our activities, which we constantly adapt to new needs and changed circumstances. Preparing interpreters to work with new technologies (use of AI, RSI) is also part of our remit. Testing and improving the accessibility of our products and IT systems is another significant component of our work.

Discussing new ideas, working out the practical details and taking care of the logistics is how the team works, backing each other up when the need arises. We are a friendly, open and multi-cultural team and want to make sure you benefit from your traineeship with us.

Your tasks

You will participate in the tasks of the team and support it in all logistics aspects of the training courses we organise. This will involve participant management and setting up of training sessions, also on online distance-learning platforms.

One area of work will be coordination and support tasks for a network of interpreters who provide terminology in their A-language for upcoming legislative files. During plenary sessions, you will assist the Documentation Team in managing incoming speaking points for interpreting teams.

We may also ask you to take part in the recording of audio or video material for training, writing scripts or organizing recording sessions. Doing research on topics of interest for future training sessions for Interpreters is also something we may ask you to do.

You are

  • A curious, open-minded and adaptable person with a strong interest in languages and the European Union;
  • Very good command of English is required; another foreign language would be an asset;
  • You have a strong interest in interpretation and technologies used in interpretation;
  • You are generally open towards digital technologies and have good IT skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, but also PowerPoint or Prezi;
  • A proven interest in adult training would be an asset. But, most importantly, you are not afraid to learn, ask questions and integrate a team.
