Who we are

The Directorate-General for Internal Policies of the Union (DG IPOL) is responsible for organising the work of the Parliament’s committees dealing with the EU’s internal policies, and for assisting Members in the exercise of the legislative, budgetary and oversight powers conferred upon the European Parliament.

Policy Department for Structural and Cohesion Policies – Transport and Tourism sector (TRAN) and horizontal tasks.

As an integral part of DG IPOL, the Policy Department for Structural and Cohesion Policies provides expertise, research and policy advice tailor-made for all parliamentary bodies, and especially the Parliamentary Committees responsible for Structural and Cohesion Policies.

The Policy Department sector responsible for the TRAN Committee provides expertise and policy advice to support the activities of the TRAN Committee, based on analyses carried out either in-house or externally. It provides independent, specialised, objective, high-quality and up-to-date information in matters relating to the development of a common policy for rail, road, inland waterway, maritime and air transport, postal services and tourism. In this context it also covers matters, such as the development of smart and sustainable mobility or the recovery of the transport and tourism sectors after COVID-19 and within the context of the Ukraine/Russia crisis and some more specific topics such as lifecycle of battery electric vehicles, sustainable fuels, drones, Chinese investments in EU transport infrastructure, etc.

Horizontal tasks in the Policy Department encompass the development of efficient mechanisms for guaranteeing the utmost quality of internal and external research, improving the management of expertise in the European Parliament, and establishing strategies to communicate effectively with policy makers, stakeholders and academia.

 

Your tasks

  • Background research related to briefings/studies requested by the EP Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN);
  • Drafting, graphics and other assistance in the preparation of briefings/studies;
  • Assisting with reviewing & editing draft briefings/studies;
  • Reviewing and editing of draft studies, Fact Sheets on the European Union and other texts;
  • Attending meetings and seminars and taking notes of the proceedings;
  • Assisting with social media communication, especially for the TRAN sector, including preparation of content and working with visuals to be published on social media;
  • Assisting in assessing current work practices with a view to further improve the management and provision of evidence-based research for parliamentary bodies;
  • Assisting in the development of strategies to further improve the impact of expertise and research for policy makers;
  • Assisting in organising workshops and other events and activities related to the work of the Policy Department;
  • Other duties (as may be assigned).

 

You are

  • A motivated and open-minded university graduate with a profound interest in transport and/or tourism. A technical background is an advantage;
  • You are eager to get a comprehensive picture of both the political and administrative life in the European Parliament;
  • You are committed and up for a mentored traineeship requiring not only a high level of independence and responsibility, but also critical thinking and judgement;
  • Your personal skills encompass accuracy, reliability, adaptability, versatility and a sense of organization;
  • You have a clear sense of responsibility and professional conscientiousness as well as thorough knowledge of English, both spoken and written;
  • You are interested in research, the management of research projects and science communication;
