Who we are

The Directorate-General for Internal Policies of the Union (DG IPOL) is responsible for organising the work of the Parliament’s committees dealing with the EU’s internal policies, and for assisting Members in the exercise of the legislative, budgetary and oversight powers conferred upon the European Parliament.

We are the Secretariat of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Tax Matters (FISC). The FISC Subcommittee was established in September 2020 to deal with tax matters, such as corporate and individual taxation, VAT, excise duties including carbon tax, and in particular to combat tax fraud, tax evasion and tax avoidance and improve financial transparency for taxation purposes. The Subcommittee has 30 members and meets on a monthly basis. You can find more information on FISC here.

The Secretariat's daily work consists in supporting the Subcommittee's Chair and Members in their activities. We provide assistance to the Committee Chair in the preparation of committee meetings and in ensuring that they run smoothly and in full compliance of parliament's rules of procedure. We support rapporteurs in the preparation of their reports, we organise hearings with experts, exchange of views with Ministers, Commission representatives or national parliaments and prepare missions to EU Member States and third countries.

We are a relatively small but dynamic team, which values dedication and team spirit. We are happy to welcome new faces to our unit.

Your tasks

You will be quickly integrated in the team and fully involved in the ongoing work of the Secretariat, ranging from organising public hearings and conferences on tax related issues (e.g. EU Tax Symposium) as well as delegation trips to EU Member States or third countries to assisting in drafting reports and carrying out background research.

You will actively participate in the preparation and follow-up of committee meetings and will be given tasks and responsibilities, fully contributing to the support of the Members of the Subcommittee under the supervision of your colleagues in the FISC Secretariat. This will allow you to get an insider's understanding of how the European Parliament contributes to shaping the EU’s tax policies and how it interacts with other EU institutions, Member States, international organisations and stakeholders.

You are

We look for someone who is highly motivated, enthusiastic and eager to learn and contribute to our work. As a small team, we look for someone who is able to work independently, suggests initiatives and values team spirit.

Fluency in English is required and advanced skills in other languages are a valuable asset. Studies or previous professional experience related to taxation are a plus.

You will need excellent drafting and communication skills and the ability to react quickly to requests. Working in a political environment also requires flexibility and sensitivity.
