Who we are

The Directorate-General for Internal Policies of the Union (DG IPOL) is responsible for organising the work of the Parliament’s committees dealing with the EU’s internal policies, and for assisting Members in the exercise of the legislative, budgetary and oversight powers conferred upon the European Parliament.

We are the Secretariat of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), one of the largest committees in the European Parliament. ITRE's policy remit is both wide ranging and rich in content. As a result, ITRE offers trainees a true cross-cutting experience that covers Union energy, research and innovation, industrial, space and telecoms/digital policies. Each of these areas is an essential component of the Union's internal market and has a direct impact on the life of its citizens. ITRE Committee has a wide legislative portfolio. Trainees in ITRE will have the opportunity to experience first-hand the legislative process inside the Parliament, all the way from the drafting phase right up to vote and adoption in Plenary.
