Who we are

The Directorate-General for Internal Policies of the Union (DG IPOL) is responsible for organising the work of the Parliament’s committees dealing with the EU’s internal policies, and for assisting Members in the exercise of the legislative, budgetary and oversight powers conferred upon the European Parliament.

The Secretariat of the Committee on Budgets assists the Members of the committee in their daily work, supporting, in particular, the Chair of the committee. We are responsible for the annual procedure for the EU budget, the multiannual financial framework (MFF) and codecision work on any legislative proposal that relates to budgetary matters (recent examples are the Ukraine Facility, the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform or the Recovery and Resilience Facility). We are therefore at the heart of the high-level political debates on how to finance the Union priorities over the coming years.

The EU budget covers the full range of policies. Working in our secretariat provides a comprehensive overview of what the EU does and how political priorities are translated into concrete financial means. We are a dynamic, cohesive, relatively small team. Team spirit and dedication are essential values for us.

Your tasks

As trainee you will immediately be integrated into the team, taking your part in assisting the Members in carrying out their budgetary and legislative work.

In autumn, you will be fully involved in the budgetary procedure, following each step, from the vote in committee to the actual adoption of the EU budget. In spring, you will be involved in the follow-up to the implementation of the budget. Throughout the year, you will actively participate in the preparation and follow-up of committee meetings and in legislative work, including votes, on a wide range of policies.

Under our supervision, you will have your own tasks and responsibilities, fully contributing to our daily work. This will allow you to get a great understanding of the EU decision-making processes, experiencing them from the inside.

This traineeship will also take place as the newly elected Parliament starts its legislative term, which will give you the opportunity to assist with the organisation of the hearings of the Commissioner-designates.

You are

If you have some knowledge about EU policies and procedures and wish to understand EU decision-making processes from the inside, you will enjoy being part of our team and work. We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, eager to learn and to contribute to our work.

You will need excellent drafting skills and the ability to react quickly to requests. Working in a political environment also requires flexibility and sensitivity. Team spirit and a positive attitude are also a must.

Finally, we expect a good level of IT skills. Knowledge of infographic design is a plus.
