Who we are

The Directorate-General for Internal Policies of the Union (DG IPOL) is responsible for organising the work of the Parliament’s committees dealing with the EU’s internal policies, and for assisting Members in the exercise of the legislative, budgetary and oversight powers conferred upon the European Parliament.

The Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) Secretariat comprises a well-integrated team of colleagues working together in a friendly atmosphere with a mission to support the Chair and the Members of the TRAN Committee in their legislative and non-legislative parliamentary work. We organise the Committee meetings and help the Committee to establish and meet its main political priorities in the areas of transport and tourism.

This includes assisting the Members in their legislative work, proposing appropriate measures for evaluating implementation, ensuring scrutiny vis-à-vis the Commission and its agencies and providing internal and external expertise. We also help the Members to draft and edit documents, reports and opinions on various aspects of European transport, tourism and postal service policies and prepare the committee votes on the parliamentary amendments.

Your tasks

Our trainee will pro-actively contribute to all areas of our work and will perform various ad-hoc tasks.

You will help with the summaries of legislative and non-legislative proposals, write content for our intranet website and the e-newsletter, attend various conferences or workshops and de-brief the Head of Unit and the administrators about the debates.

We may ask you to draft preparatory documents, do an occasional translation, research the Internet or draft information notes for the administrators and the Head of Unit. You will also regularly attend Committee, Coordinators’ and Shadow Rapporteurs’ meetings and assist the team in the follow-up.

Most of all, you will learn a lot about the European Parliament and the EU institutions, use your time to explore their various activities according to your own interests and, hopefully have some fun too!

You are

We are looking for a pro-active and motivated candidate who is able to work both autonomously and within a team. Our trainee will be able to integrate quickly in the Secretariat and maintain good relations with all colleagues.

We wish to recruit a reliable, efficient and dedicated colleague looking to make the most of this exciting opportunity. The successful candidate will have interest in transport policy, excellent drafting skills in English (our main working language) and, preferably, a good command of French. Knowledge of other EU languages will be an advantage.
