Who we are

The Directorate-General for Internal Policies of the Union (DG IPOL) is responsible for organising the work of the Parliament’s committees dealing with the EU’s internal policies, and for assisting Members in the exercise of the legislative, budgetary and oversight powers conferred upon the European Parliament.

We are the secretariat of the European Parliament’s Committee on Regional Development (REGI). We are a multicultural and multilingual team of 17 colleagues from all corners of Europe, and we are happy to welcome new faces to our unit.

Our committee, REGI, is in charge of the EU’s regional development and cohesion policy within the European Parliament. The committee meets on a monthly basis and has 43 members; you can find more information on the REGI current files and activities here.

Our main work is legislation and the related procedures. If you join our team, you will learn about the European Parliament and committee work, how laws are made, how the EU budget works and what cohesion policy means in practice. You will also discover what it means to be a committee member and how the Parliament’s political groups work.

Committee work is the core business of the Parliament, so you will experience and learn a lot in five months.

Your tasks

Your tasks will depend on the files that we will be dealing with when you join our unit.

Trainees usually help the committee officials in preparing parliamentary reports and opinions and in all the related work. Your work would include, for example, drafting texts for the reports and opinions, attending meetings with the MEPs and Commission or Council staff, writing memos and newsletter articles, doing background research, attending events and reporting back on them.

Sometimes we also need help in organising meetings, public hearings and missions.

You are

We look for a motivated, enthusiastic colleague who works well in a multicultural environment and is eager to learn about committee work and the European Parliament. Fluency in English is a necessity, and advanced skills in other languages are a plus.

Background in regional development or European studies are appreciated, but not essential. We hope that you will be interested in the topics our committee works on.

This post is suitable for graduates in any discipline.
