Who we are

The Directorate-General for Translation (DG TRAD) provides the European Parliament (EP) with translation services for its written or electronic communications in all official languages of the European Union.

Our mission is:

  • To make available in all official languages all documents relating to Parliament’s role as co-legislator and one of the two arms of the budgetary authority, in order to ensure the legitimacy and transparency of the legislative and budgetary process of the European Union;
  • To enable the European Parliament to meet its commitment to the policy of multilingualism, designed to ensure the equal treatment of languages and permitting all citizens of the European Union to communicate with the institutions and have access to the documents of those institutions in their own language;
    To support the Members of the European Parliament and its administration in their multilingual communication with citizens by providing high-quality, modern, multilingual services in text, audio and video and ensuring that content is clear and in all official languages of the EU;
  • To ensure that all these services are supplied as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Your tasks

The Training and Traineeships Unit (TTU) ensures DG TRAD’s application of the European Parliament’s Learning and Development policy. It defines the internal training strategy and establishes the training policy. In its endeavour to support DG TRAD staff in developing their key competencies, TTU defines, together with the relevant stakeholders, the learning needs and the resulting learning solutions. TTU manages, delivers and designs DG TRAD-specific training.

In response to the fast-changing working environment in DG TRAD, staff need constantly to adapt their skills to keep the pace with the new developments and trends.  TTU, therefore, needs to react in time and match the defined learning needs with appropriate L&D solutions.

Information technology and computers have become part and parcel of everyday working life. With this, learning is also changing and so are methods of training and learning environment. To provide DG TRAD staff with the means and the ability to re-shape their knowledge and skills in line with ever-changing needs, TTU has to complement traditional training and courses with online learning materials, which allow DG TRAD colleagues to learn: anytime, anywhere, at any pace; with the relevant focus on their learning gaps.

You will be working with a fun and collaborative team, in a highly diverse and multilingual environment. At the Training and Traineeships Unit, we enjoy the team’s good spirit and are always ready to support our colleagues along the way - you will be:

1) Participating in the preparation of the e-learning environment;

2) Helping to define the most relevant areas of focus;

3) Actively involved in the preparation of the training content and creation of different online, self-paced courses;

4) Involved in the organisation and follow-up of various activities for DG TRAD’s trainees.
