The Directorate-General for Personnel (DG PERS) is broadly responsible for managing the human resources of the European Parliament's Secretariat, so that it can provide the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) with the assistance they need to fulfil their mandate.

More specifically, DG PERS manages the different groups of staff throughout their career, in areas such as:

  • Selection, recruitment, entry, training, career development;
  • Management of rights and obligations, salary, allowances, pension rights;
  • Protection and well-being at work;
  • Strategies to improve and promote equality and diversity;
  • Management of trainees;
  • Internal communication in the institution.

We are the Medical Preparedness and Crisis Management Unit. A dynamic team of five working closely together with the medical services in Brussels and Luxembourg. Our team aims to offer high quality service, expert advice and coordination in the following areas: medical crisis management and preparedness, analysis, prevention and management of collective emergencies and risks in the places of work and during EP missions.

Practical examples:

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration and drafting of procedures in the field of medical preparedness for major incidents;
  • Logistical preparation and training in major medical incident management; multidisciplinary exercises; skill stations and workshops;
  • Analysis of past crises and focus on the lessons learned to strengthen the EP's future medical crisis preparedness and to prepare the necessary blueprints for future health crisis management based on medical major incidence management principles;
  • Risk assessment on future health emergencies, medical risk assessments for delegations outside the EU (travel medicine);
  • Medical coordination in occupational health policies including mental health, analysis and guidance in full respect of medical deontology and data protection, medical IT;
  • Interinstitutional cooperation in the medical area including IMB (Interinstitutional Medical Board) and JSIS (Joint Sickness and Insurance Scheme).

 

Your tasks

Depending on your personal profile, and chosen in close dialogue between you and the traineeship supervisor, your tasks may include:

  • Participating in the unit's tasks concerning crisis preparedness, including drafting supporting documentation and checklists;
  • Organisation of in-house training on major medical incident management, workshops and skill stations (emergency medicine and first aid);
  • Contributing to the creation of new projects and awareness raising events;
  • Participating in designing smart solutions for lean and paperless procedures;
  • Participating in the administrative tasks of the Medical Preparedness and Crisis Management Unit, such as drafting minutes of meetings, preparing documentation, updates for the intranet page of the unit;
  • Contacts with clients;
  • Drafting guides and internal communications.

 

You are

If you:

  • Are a proactive person who enjoys working in a team;
  • Are passionate about medical preparedness (travel medicine, epidemics, major incidents);
  • Have good communication and didactic skills and like to write clear and concise texts;
  • Have good organisation skills;
  • Have an excellent command of English and/or French (any other EU language is an asset, being able to read and understand English documents is essential);
  • Know how to prioritise tasks in a demanding and changing environment and are able to respect deadlines;
  • Are willing to acquire new skills while working with a highly motivated team;
  • Fully respect data protection rules and professional ethics;
  • Have a good command of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • (Possess a medical or paramedical background, in particular in emergency medicine or medical preparedness; not mandatory but would be an asset).
