Who we are

If you would like to gain experience in the field of human resources within a large multicultural organisation such as the European Parliament, apply for one of our traineeships in DG PERS!

The Directorate-General for Personnel (DG PERS) is broadly responsible for managing the human resources of the European Parliament's Secretariat, so that it can provide the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) with the assistance they need to fulfil their mandate.

More specifically, DG PERS manages the different groups of staff throughout their career, in areas such as:

  • Selection, recruitment, entry, training, career development;
  • Management of rights and obligations, salary, allowances, pension rights;
  • Protection and well-being at work;
  • Strategies to improve and promote equality and diversity;
  • Management of trainees;
  • Internal communication within the institution.

The Equality, Inclusion and Diversity Unit (EIDU) contributes to devising, launching and monitoring the equality, inclusion and diversity policies within the EP Secretariat. It provides support and assistance to the Vice-President in charge of gender equality and diversity and the Chair of the High-Level Group on Gender Equality and Diversity, as well as the Appointing Authority, Committee for Equality of opportunity between men and women and diversity (COPEC) and other internal bodies. It organises training courses and awareness-raising events and liaises with the other EU institutions, international organisations and civil society.

Your tasks

As a trainee, you will participate in or assist with:

  • The organisation of awareness-raising events, namely Coming Out Day (11 October); International Day for the Abolition of Slavery (2 December); International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December); and International Women’s Day (8 March);
  • Preparing draft reports, background notes and briefings on agenda items for meetings with MEPs from the Bureau's High-Level Group on Gender Equality and Diversity and other stakeholders, including civil society actors;
  • Contributing to the implementation of the Report to the Bureau on diversities other than gender in the European Parliament's Secretariat;
  • Contributing to the drafting of the yearly brochure ‘Women in the European Parliament’;
  • The research of best practices in the field of equality and diversity in the universities, businesses and international organisations;
  • Submitting policy proposals in order to create a more inclusive working environment;
  • Providing overall support to the supervisor and to the other members of the unit, e.g. carrying out general administrative tasks, writing/sending letters and emails.

 

You are

If you are:

  • A highly motivated, dynamic and collaborative person and can work autonomously and as part of a team;
  • Fluent in English. A good command of French is an asset;
  • Interested in equality and diversity issues, or even have work experience in a related domain;
  • Well-informed about or have a background in any of the following: human resources, law, communication, human rights, statistics;
  • Keen to take responsibility and have an impact in a small team;
  • Ambitious with high levels of judgement, analytical capacity, commitment and reliability;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
