Who we are

The European Parliament stands for European democracy. We help to connect it to people.

This entails providing complete and impartial information to citizens and media about the European Parliament, and assisting Members in their communication activities. DG Communication (DG COMM) strives to reach and engage the right audience with the right message at the right time and in doing so, deliver world-class communication. We are committed communication professionals coming from various professional and academic backgrounds.

The Spokesperson's unit is the central point in DG COMM for answering queries from media not directly related to the European Parliament legislative work and for responding to misleading and erroneous information about the Parliament. A subgroup of disinformation experts of the Unit liaise with the other EU institutions to tackle disinformation and help developing strategies to better understand and prevent the phenomenon. The Unit not only answers media and stakeholders' queries but it also aims to provide members and officials with factual information and response options.

Set up in January 2018, the Spokesperson's Unit is placed directly under the responsibility of the EP Spokesperson and Director General for Communication, Jaume Duch Guillot.
