The European Parliament stands for European democracy. We help connect it to people.  

This entails providing complete and impartial information to citizens and media about the European Parliament, and assisting Members in their communication activities. The Directorate-General for Communication (DG COMM) strives to reach and engage the right audience with the right message at the right time and in doing so, deliver world-class communication. We are committed communication professionals coming from various professional and academic backgrounds.

In the Concept & Design Unit, we are responsible for branding, strategy, concept, copy and key visuals behind the European Parliament's major institutional campaigns like the European Elections campaign, the Sakharov Prize, the LUX Film Prize, together.eu and many others.

We strive to work like an internal communication agency. 

The Concept & Design Unit is divided into two teams, the concept team and the design team. This role is within the Design team.

 

Your tasks

Candidates should expect to do produce a wide variety of engaging and impactful designs across different formats/platforms, within the Design team and in collaboration with the Concept team.

You will work under the supervision of a senior colleague on the following tasks:

1. Graphic Design

  • Produce graphic designs, illustrations and layouts for digital (social media, web) and print;
  • Work with the Concept & Design teams to develop ideas that deliver on conceptual requirements;
  • Work with copywriters to ensure correct and appropriate presentation of text on visuals;
  • Version designs in 24+ languages, producing variants at high volume;
  • Follow brand guidelines (the European Parliament Brand Book);
  • Prepare presentations of your designs for the Concept & Design Board;
  • Manage design files and libraries.

2. Photo editing

  • Light photo editing as necessary for the graphic design;
  • Image research.

3. Motion Design (not mandatory, but an advantage)

  • Create animated graphics and videos using computer software such as Adobe After Effects or Adobe Premiere Pro, for different communication products and platforms;
  • Transform storyboards into animated sequences and translate ideas into motion graphics that communicate effectively and can be understood by a wide audience;
  • Manage files, animation libraries, and updating procedures documentation.

 

You are

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in visual communication;
  • Experience working as a graphic designer, independently or in a team (agency, government, company or other organisation);
  • Fluent skills in English;
  • A highly creative, imaginative and curious mindset and approach to their work;
  • Ability to work well with a copywriting partner;
  • Experience with the Adobe suite;
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines with high volumes of work.
