Multilingualism and Succession Planning Unit

The Directorate-General for Logistics and Interpretation for Conferences (DG LINC) is the European Parliament’s multilingual conference service hub and a global leader in the field of conference interpretation and management. We support the democratic legitimacy of the Institution by helping Members of Parliament to get their message across in any of the official EU languages, thus enabling the legislative process and making it accessible to the citizens of Europe. This makes DG LINC a very dynamic and collaborative place to work, offering various opportunities for connecting internally and with all those taking part in the legislative process. The Multilingualism and Succession Planning Unit is responsible for ensuring that there are enough new interpreters in the booths with the right skills, quality and languages. The unit cooperates with universities upstream, offering pedagogical and financial support, and then contributes to the organisation of accreditation and language-adding tests. It is a friendly team operating in a multicultural environment.

• Assisting with the organisation of virtual classes and masterclasses  - preparing, implementing, following-up;
• Assisting the test team, helping to organise language-adding tests (and possibly accreditation tests);
• Attending meetings, drafting minutes, analysing data, consolidating results, reporting on feedback etc;
• Liaising with other parts of the service - interpreters, heads of language units, IT unit - as well as potentially with our partners in other EU institutions.

The traineeship should give you the opportunity to build on the knowledge acquired during your studies and to familiarise yourself with the activities of the European Parliament and to understand it better.

• You are enthusiastic about the European Project, and eager to learn and to share knowledge;
• You are comfortable with new technologies and you have a good sense of communication (oral, written, visual);
• You are open, flexible and adaptable, have good team spirit and are willing to work within a small, friendly and motivated team;
• You are a trained conference interpreter. Experience in teaching and/or working on projects would be considered an asset;
• Fluency in English and/or in French (oral and written) is needed. Other languages would be an asset.
