Who we are

If you would like to gain experience in the field of human resources within a large multicultural organisation such as the European Parliament, apply for one of the traineeships in DG PERS!

The Directorate-General for Personnel (DG PERS) is broadly responsible for managing the human resources of the European Parliament's Secretariat, so that it can provide the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) with the assistance they need to fulfil their mandate.

More specifically, DG PERS manages the different groups of staff throughout their career, in areas such as:

  • Selection, recruitment, entry, training, career development;
  • Management of rights and obligations, salary, allowances, pension rights;
  • Protection and well-being at work;
  • Strategies to improve and promote equality and diversity;
  • Management of trainees;
  • Internal communication in the institution.

Do you want to learn how new staff is welcomed at the European Parliament and what support is offered to members of staff during their career and when they are leaving Parliament?

Then join the Staff Front Office Unit! Our mission is to provide a bespoke, multilingual, personalised service to all members of European Parliament's staff. We advise staff on the administrative procedures in their host countries, welcome newcomers, provide assistance on procedures related to the end of their contract, and organise information events. Currently, much of our work is dedicated to the preparation for the change of legislature after the European elections in 2024.

We are in continuous contact with all categories of staff working at the European Parliament, so if you like working with people, the Staff Front Office Unit is the perfect place for you.

The Staff Front Office Unit consists of two sections:

  • The Privileges and Immunities section's mission refers largely to the Protocol no. 7 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU. The section provides a multilingual, bespoke and personalized service to members of staff and supports them with administrative procedures in their host country, e.g. the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Special Identity cards, laissez-passer), the Ministry of Finance (VAT exemption, tax certificates), or the Region of Brussels (Single Permits for Non-EU citizens).
  • The Info Desk section is in charge of informing newly recruited staff about their rights and obligations, largely via the Starting@EP application; we organise physical info-sessions and webinars, and we give advice on a large range of questions regarding administrative procedures and European civil service law.

Trainees of the Staff Front Office Unit will work in both sections: Privileges and Immunities and Info Desk.
