The ultimate objective of the Directorate-General for Communication (DG COMM) is to help build the reputation of the EU by showcasing its democratic legitimacy, embodied in the European Parliament. This entails providing complete and impartial information to citizens and media about the European Parliament, and assisting Members in their communication activities. Visiting the European Parliament enables citizens to build a direct relationship with the European institutions and examine Europe from a European perspective. The visiting facilities, such as the Hemicycle, Parlamentarium, and House of European History in Brussels, the Hemicycle in Strasbourg and in the Europa Experiences in member states, receive a wide variety of visitors from families to young people and groups from the educational sector. Different activities, such as events, temporary exhibitions and role-play games cater to various interests, whether academic or curious. These activities are run by the Directorate for Visitors
The Visitors Services Coordination Unit (VSCU), is responsible for transversal coordination within the Directorate for Visitors. From promoting the visitor offer to keeping in touch after the visit, improving the visitor experience is the main goal of the VSCU. Innovation is at the heart of our work, and everyday activities include managing marketing campaigns and developing new digital projects for visitors, such as apps and virtual visits. The VSCU ensures that the visitor offer is communicated in a consistent way across all platforms - from the Visiting website, to the visit_ep social media channels, email marketing and outdoor advertising campaigns, to name but a few.
Working in the VSCU, you will have the chance to work with many people in the unit who follow a range of projects. This will give you the chance to learn how the European Parliament communicates to various audiences through the visitor facilities. In general, you will get a feel for the work of the Unit, of what it is like to work as a communications officer in the European institutions.
These tasks can vary from assisting in meetings and producing communication materials to developing new management systems. Depending on needs of the Unit at the time, we may be able to tailor your traineeship to your interests.
The VSCU coordinates the marketing strategy and communication campaigns for all visitor services and provides support for a decentralised and integrated marketing strategy for the Europa Experiences. In this context, your tasks would include the development and execution of communication campaigns, communication research and project management assistance.
