Who we are

The Directorate-General for Finance, hereinafter DG FINS, is responsible for Parliament’s budgetary and financial management. Based in both Luxembourg and Brussels, it draws up Parliament's budget, keeps Parliament’s accounts and prepares its financial statements, manages Members' allowances and entitlements, and finances Parliament’s political groups, as well as political parties and foundations at European level. DG FINS consists of three Directorates, 17 Units and the Central Secretariat. DG FINS plays a key and varied role in Parliament’s administration and is a trusted interlocutor for Members and political authorities. Joining DG FINS as a trainee will certainly boost your career. The Members’ Local Assistance Financial Management Unit within DG FINS is responsible for the payment of expenses related to Members’ local parliamentary assistants and for the administrative management of local assistant contracts and service provider contracts, as well as paying agent and Members’ trainee contracts. The Unit ensures the smooth and timely processing of files in accordance with the applicable rules and procedures, while providing support to Members in matters related to the exercise of their mandate.

You will join a small team of 7–8 colleagues responsible for handling a wide range of requests from Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). The team manages files submitted by MEPs from the following Member States: Austria, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Malta, Netherlands, Poland and Romania.

 

Your tasks

  • Analyzing MEPs’ requests against the applicable rules and procedures, including requests concerning service provider contracts, employment contracts, invoices, travel expenses, etc.;
  • Managing Members’ files in accordance with established procedures and deadlines;
  • Registering and maintaining data and following up on information related to MEPs’ requests;
  • Communicating directly with MEPs and their assistants, providing clear and factual information;
  • Drafting professional emails, letters and other correspondence;
  • Performing statistical analyses and preparing data visualisations using Excel.

 

You are

  • A graduate in finance, law, economics, audit, mathematics, business administration or a related field;
  • Skilled at analyzing information and drafting clear, factual and well-structured communications;
  • Able to quickly understand, process and apply new information and rules;
  • Well organized, with the ability to manage multiple requests and priorities simultaneously; 
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to accuracy and compliance with established procedures;
  • A collaborative and reliable team player;
  • Proficient in standard IT tools and software, particularly MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook;
  • Fluent in several EU languages;
  • You have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship.
