European Parliament Liaison Office in Spain - Post B: Press, Social Media and Political Insight

The European Parliament Liaison Office in Spain (EPLO) provides information about the role and powers of the European Parliament, Spanish Members of the European Parliament and their activities, and the issues currently under consideration by Parliament that are relevant to Spain and the European Union as a whole.

The EPLO's work covers press and digital communication, stakeholder outreach and events, youth engagement, and political analysis. We are looking for a trainee who will focus on press relations, social media and digital content. The trainee will also work closely with the Youth Engagement and Institutional Communication trainee on communication events such as seminars, training sessions and EPLO events involving different stakeholder groups.

The main tasks will include:

• Drafting press releases, media lines, key messages, speaking points and responses to media enquiries;
• Monitoring media coverage and identifying relevant press and communication opportunities;
• Supporting relations with journalists and the organisation of press events, seminars and conferences;
• Helping journalists with the administrative arrangements required to cover EPLO activities or European Parliament events in Brussels and Strasbourg;
• Planning, drafting and publishing content for the EPLO's social media channels, including X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube;
• Contributing to audiovisual production and the creation of digital assets using Canva and video- and image-editing tools;
• Drafting and preparing mass mailings;
• Contributing to the organisation and communication of joint seminars, training activities and events for media.

• A graduate in Journalism, Communication or a related field, with a strong interest in EU affairs and a clear commitment to the European Union and its values - you have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship; 
• You have an excellent understanding of news and current affairs, strong communication and drafting skills, and the ability to produce clear and engaging content for press and digital audiences;
• You understand how different social media platforms work and are interested in audiovisual and digital communication;
• You are creative, proactive and able to work accurately under time pressure and adapt to a wide range of tasks;
• You are flexible and a strong team player;
• Previous professional experience in journalism, press relations, digital communication, social media or audiovisual production would be an asset;
• Knowledge of social media management, audiovisual editing, infographic design, content management systems and mailing tools would also be welcome.

Languages: Native-speaker equivalent /C2 level or equivalent in Spanish is essential for the position, as most contacts and communications are inside the country. C1 level in English is also required for non-national contacts. Any other EU language may be considered an asset.
