Who we are

As the voice of EU citizens, the European Parliament stands for European democracy. The Directorate-General for Communication (DG COMM) amplifies the Parliament's messages across the European Union. We connect Members of the European Parliament with the people they represent and communicate what the Parliament is, what it does and what it stands for. When Parliament speaks, we make sure it is heard.

We are a team of committed communication professionals from a range of professional and academic backgrounds.

The European Parliament Liaison Office in Spain (EPLO) provides information about the role and powers of the European Parliament, Spanish Members of the European Parliament and their activities, and the issues currently under consideration by Parliament that are relevant to Spain and the European Union as a whole.

Your tasks

The EPLO's work covers press and digital communication, stakeholder outreach and events, youth engagement, and political analysis. We are looking for a trainee who will focus on institutional relations, the organisation of events involving professional and civil-society stakeholders, and political insight. A central part of the role will be to follow European Parliament and EU policy developments, identify the issues most relevant to Spain, and turn complex political and policy information into clear, concise and useful analysis for the Head of Office and the team.

The main tasks will include:

  • Contributing to the planning, organisation and follow-up of conferences, seminars, institutional meetings and stakeholder events;
  • Liaising with public institutions, civil-society organisations, professional and sectoral associations, think tanks, academia and other relevant partners;
  • Identifying relevant stakeholders and partnership opportunities and helping to maintain and update stakeholder databases;
  • Supporting speaker coordination, invitations, registration, logistics, briefing materials and participant follow-up;
  • Closely monitoring European Parliament activity, EU policy developments and political debate, particularly on issues relevant to Spain;
  • Preparing concise political insight products, including daily or ad hoc bullet points, policy summaries, political briefings, background notes and short analytical reports for the Head of Office and the team;
  • Supporting the Head of Office with research and drafting for meetings, speeches, presentations and other public engagements;
  • Preparing meeting briefs, speaking points, presentations and tailored background materials for institutional meetings and stakeholder events;
  • Supporting outreach activities designed to strengthen the EPLO's relations with key institutional and professional audiences, and
    assisting with the administrative and communication-related aspects of events and stakeholder activities.

You are

  • A graduate in Journalism, Communication, European Studies, International Relations, Political Science, EU Law or a related field, with a strong interest in EU affairs and a clear commitment to the European Union and its values - you have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship;
  • You have a very good understanding of European politics and policymaking and can rapidly grasp complex legislative and policy issues, identify what is politically significant, and turn detailed information into accurate, concise and well-structured bullet points, summaries and analysis;
  • You also have excellent organisational, drafting and interpersonal skills and are comfortable engaging with a wide range of institutional and professional stakeholders;
  • You are analytical, intellectually curious, proactive and detail-oriented. You can work accurately under time pressure, manage several tasks and deadlines at once, and combine policy analysis with practical event and stakeholders-related work;
  • You have a flexible approach and a strong sense of teamwork;
  • A significant part of the role involves supporting the organisation of events addressing a wide variety of European policy areas and bringing together diverse stakeholders;
  • You should therefore be comfortable contributing to all stages of event preparation and delivery, including communications and outreach, participant coordination, practical management and logistical tasks and reporting;
  • Previous professional experience in institutional communication, EU affairs, public affairs, political or policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, event organisation or consultancy would be an asset;
  • Strong familiarity with contact databases, customer relationship management systems, content management systems, mailing platforms and event-management tools would also be welcome.

Languages: Native-speaker equivalent/C2 level or equivalent in Spanish is essential for the position, as most contacts and communications are inside the country. C1 level in English is also required for non-national contacts. Any other EU language may be considered an asset.

The European Parliament is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace. We welcome all candidates, regardless of their geographical, racial or ethnic origin, political or religious beliefs, age, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, civil status or family situation.
