Who we are
The Directorate-General for Information Technologies and Cybersecurity (DG ITEC) delivers digitally advanced, secure, resilient, compliant and sustainable information and communications technology (ICT) services. The Printing Unit (PRINTING) ensures the provision of a wide range of high quality printed products, including legislative and protocol documents, as well as on-demand printing services and stationery.
Its key responsibilities include:
- Producing official working documents essential for committee meetings and plenary sessions (such as agendas, draft reports, amendments, voting lists, and adopted texts) on tight legislative deadlines across the official EU languages;
- Printing brochures, policy studies, annual reports, conference programs, and public communication materials for the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS), political groups, and administrative directorates;
- Providing large-format printing (such as signage, posters and exhibition banners);
- Providing finishing services such as binding and cutting;
- Ensuring that printed documents are delivered directly to plenary chambers (in Brussels and Strasbourg), committee rooms, and Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) when physical copies are required.
In Brussels, the branch within the Printing Unit taking care of these tasks is known as the Instant Printing and Delivery Service.
Your tasks
As a Print Production Coordination trainee, you will join our print coordination team to bridge the gap between incoming client files and the print floor. Rather than creative graphic design, this hands-on role focuses on technical file verification (preflight), production scheduling, large-format printing, and quality control in a fast-paced, multilingual environment.
Your key tasks:
Prepress and file preparation
- Run preflight checks on incoming files (PDF/X standards, fonts, bleed, 300 DPI resolution);
- Convert colors to CMYK profiles and verify layout consistency across EU language versions;
- Create imposition layouts for brochures and booklets, and generate proofs for validation.
Large-format printing
- Process and scale files using print software for large-format print products;
- Set up, operate, and calibrate wide-format printers and plotters.
Production coordination
- Review print requests, check deadlines, and schedule jobs across available machines;
- Track order status from file intake to final delivery using internal workflow software.
Quality control & maintenance
- Inspect finished prints for color accuracy, alignment, and binding quality.
