Who we are
The Directorate-General for Citizens' Rights, Justice and Institutional Affairs (DG IUST) organises and facilitates the work of parliamentary committees in key areas such as culture, education, legal and constitutional affairs, gender equality, civil liberties, petitions and democracy protection. Through high-quality research, expert advice, and administrative support, DG IUST enables Members and committees to shape sound legislative and policy outcomes.
The Secretariat of the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) assists the Committee and its Chair and Members in adopting an informed position on a number of important legal issues concerning, amongst others, the legal basis, simplification and implementation of EU legislation, better-lawmaking, Parliament’s proceedings before the Court of Justice and Members’ privileges and immunities. It also performs legislative functions in relation to intellectual property law, as well as civil, commercial, company and procedural law.
We are looking for a trainee with a legal background to join our dynamic team of about 20 colleagues. During the period from March to July 2027, the successful candidate will assist in developing the position of JURI Committee on important legislative and non-legislative files.

Your tasks
Your tasks will be:
- To assist in the legislative procedure at Committee, Parliament and possibly inter-institutional level;
- To assist in the preparation of Committee decisions with regard to certain horizontal areas of its competence, such as the legal basis, the involvement of Parliament in actions before the Court of Justice of the European Union, and the respect for the principle of subsidiarity;
- To assist in the organisation of committee events, such as public hearings or interparliamentary committee meetings, and other meetings relating to the committee work;
- To participate in meetings, drafting, research and preparation of files and contribution to working documents.
You are
You:
- Have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship;
- Have a legal background and you are interested in parliamentary law and procedures, as well as institutional matters;
- Are curious, active, solution-oriented, flexible, willing to learn and open to new challenges;
- Have a strong sense of diplomacy and discretion;
- Have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy team work.
