Prevention and Well-being at Work Unit - Prevention and Protection at Work Service

The Directorate-General for Personnel (DG PERS) is broadly responsible for managing the human resources of the European Parliament's Secretariat, so that it can provide the Members of the European Parliament with the assistance they need to fulfil their mandate.

More specifically, DG PERS manages the different groups of staff throughout their career, in areas such as:

•  Selection, recruitment, entry, training, career development;
• Management of rights and obligations, salary, allowances, pension rights;
• Protection and well-being at work;
• Strategies to improve and promote equality and diversity;
• Management of trainees;
• Internal communication in the institution.

The Prevention and Well-being at Work Unit has a mission to make the European Parliament a workplace that is safe, healthy, engaging and conducive to its employees’ well-being. To do so, the unit prepares and implements the Parliament’s policies in the area of prevention, protection and well-being at work, and serves as a source of expertise and an advocate of the best practices in these areas.

The unit consists of three services:

1. The Prevention and Protection at Work Service, which is in charge of preventive health and safety measures in the physical working environment, based on internal rules as well as European and national legislation;
2. The Well-being at Work Service, which is in charge of preventive health and safety measures in the psychosocial working environment (such as the assessment of psychosocial risks) as well as initiatives regarding mental health and well-being;
3. The management of the Sports Clubs in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg.

The unit has staff in Brussels and Luxembourg. 

The traineeship is part of the Prevention and Protection at Work Service. It is based in Bussels.

Your tasks will be:

• Contributing to risk assessments on the physical work environment; 
• Carrying out visits to the different buildings of the European Parliament in relation with complaints or occupational accidents;
• Contributing to recommendations in the field of health and safety at work as well as ergonomics;
• Assisting the service in administrative tasks, including as regards the risk assessments for job profiles;
• Drafting internal and external communication, such as articles and news updates related to the activities of the service;
• Supporting the service with broader tasks related to physical health and safety at work.

If you:

• Have a background and/or experience in occupational health and safety; other profiles will also be considered, especially those with background in human resources, ergonomics, buildings management or communication;
• Have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship;
• Have an interest in occupational health and safety, and/or well-being at work;
• Are conscientious, detail-oriented, analytical and able to carry out tasks independently;
• Have very good communication skills, both verbal and written;
• Have a sense of initiative and ability to propose new solutions;
• Are open-minded and like to work in a team;
• Have an excellent knowledge of English and/or French.
