Who we are

If you would like to gain experience in the field of human resources within a large multicultural organisation such as the European Parliament, apply for one of the traineeships in DG PERS!

The Directorate-General for Personnel (DG PERS) is broadly responsible for managing the human resources of the European Parliament's Secretariat, so that it can provide the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) with the assistance they need to fulfil their mandate.

More specifically, the DG PERS manages the different groups of staff throughout their career, in areas such as:

  • Selection, recruitment, entry, training, career development;
  • Management of rights and obligations, salary, allowances, pension rights;
  • Protection and well-being at work;
  • Strategies to improve and promote equality, diversity and inclusion;
  • Management of trainees;
  • Internal communication in the institution.

Coaching and Management Development Service is a small, dynamic team of four coaching professionals at the European Parliament Secretariat, combining different levels of seniority and expertise. All of us are accredited coaches; some also design and deliver training and facilitation sessions.

Our mission is to support the professional growth of managers and staff across the Secretariat by:

  • Designing and implementing individual and group coaching programmes, delivered by highly qualified internal and external coaches;
  • Offering a rich portfolio of leadership and management development activities, including catalogue courses, info sessions, hands-on workshops, and residential seminars;
  • Providing tools and activities (such as 360° feedback, development centres, and self-assessments) to help managers better understand their strengths and areas for growth;
  • Coordinating the European Parliament’s Coaching Community (EPCC), a network of 19 internal coaches, ensuring alignment with international coaching standards.

 

Your tasks

You will be:

  • Supporting coaching and management development activities: Observe and contribute to the organisation and delivery of coaching sessions, workshops, and seminars, gaining hands-on insight into L&D practices;
  • Analysing learning data: Review participation data (e.g. attendance patterns, DG distribution, seniority levels) to understand how our offer is used and identify opportunities for improvement;
  • Designing and analysing surveys: Contribute to creating a survey for managers, then analyse and interpret the results to better understand their development needs and expectations;
  • Making evidence-based recommendations: Based on your findings, propose concrete ideas to enhance our management development offer—whether in learning formats, topics, trainers, or communication methods;
  • Improving collaboration tools: Review how our team uses IT and collaborative platforms, and suggest improvements to strengthen knowledge sharing and internal teamwork;
  • Boosting visibility and outreach: Help promote our activities to relevant audiences by identifying ways to improve communication, engagement, and outreach strategies.

 

You are

If you:

  • Have obtained/will obtain a university degree (level 6 of EQF or higher) at least three months before the starting date of the traineeship;
  • Have a university degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Learning & Development, Educational Sciences, Business Administration, or a related fields;
  • Have a strong analytical mindset, with the ability to work with data (e.g. participation metrics, survey results) and translate findings into actionable recommendations;
  • Have an interest or basic knowledge in Learning & Development, coaching, and management development methodologies;
  • Have good command of IT, AI and collaborative tools (e.g. databases, survey tools, Excel, data visualisation, knowledge-sharing platforms;
  • Have the ability to work on multiple projects, with good organisational and project management skills;
  • Have strong communication skills, including the ability to synthesize information and formulate clear recommendations.
