Who we are

The European Parliament stands for European democracy. We help connect it to people.

This entails providing complete and impartial information to citizens and media about the European Parliament, and assisting Members in their communication activities. The Directorate-General for Communication (DG COMM) strives to reach and engage the right audience with the right message at the right time and in doing so, deliver world-class communication. We are committed communication professionals coming from various professional and academic backgrounds.

The European Parliament's Audiovisual Unit provides essential services to raise the awareness of the European Parliament and guarantee the transparency of its political activities. Audiovisual facilities such as TV studios, radio studios or camera crews are primarily made available to broadcast and webcast media undertakings and regular news coverage - video, audio and photo - are offered free of charge to the world's media.

Among many other activities, we broadcast the plenary sessions and make all the necessary video material available for journalists and producers. The Audiovisual Unit also provides video, audio and photo services to the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).

The Media Library archives and stores audiovisual content produced in the European Parliament. We provide access to broadcast-quality video footage of a wide range of EP activities to journalists, citizens, non-governmental organisations, as well as internal services. We offer thousands of hours’ worth of video footage, audio recordings, documenting the history of Europe from the first steps of the Common Market to the present day.

As part of Parliament's commitment to honouring journalists who were killed during the exercise of their work, the Directorate for Media offers its Schuman traineeships in memory of Jan Kuciak, the Slovak investigative journalist who was murdered in February 2018.
